The attached video is not a new episode of Returning The Favor, but those of you who miss that show are going to love this video. It came together a couple months ago, after a conversation with Angela Roberts, the CEO of US Money Reserve, Inc. Angela was talking about veterans of WWII, and the alarming fact that so few of those extraordinary men and women are still with us today. I mentioned that my favorite episodes of Returning the Favor were those that highlighted veterans. Angela then showed me some silver coins that US Money Reserve had previously minted to commemorate four key battles in the second world war – Pearl Harbor, Iwo Jima, Normandy, and The Battle of the Bulge. She called it their Valor and Victory Series.
“I’d love to present these coins to a few of the men who fought in these battles,” she said. “Just to say thanks. Would you be interested in doing that on our behalf?”
“Sure,” I said. “But if you really want to honor these men, why not film it?”
After that, things happened fast, and the next thing I knew, I was in Flat Rock, North Carolina with a small crew, making friends with a 100-year-old sailor named George Sarros – a teenager who sailed across the Atlantic 65 times during the course of the war, and saw some things you and I should never forget.
I can’t think of a better story to share on Veteran’s Day, or a finer representative of The Greatest Generation, than George. Tell me if you agree.
Mike
PS Regarding Returning the Favor – I can’t tell you how many people have asked if that show is ever coming back. Hundreds for sure, maybe thousands. Well, after meeting with George, my partner and decided to stop waiting for a network with the good sense to revive a concept that millions of people are asking about. So we’re going to do it ourselves. I think we’re going to call it “People You Should Know,” (unless somebody here has a better idea.) I’m sure we can find a home for it.
