“People You Should Know” is coming to my YouTube Channel on May 2nd

Last week, I mentioned I wanted to get to 1,000,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel before I post the first episode of my new show. I figured it would take a couple weeks to get there, but it took about ten minutes, so I’ve been scrambling ever since to get the first episode ready, which is now scheduled to drop on May 2nd. You can expect me to remind you several times between now and then to watch it. You can also expect me to try and persuade you to subscribe to and follow my channel. I realize how tiresome that is to hear, but this is the world I’ve entered, and now it’s my job to ask. So, if you haven’t done so already, please subscribe to my YouTube channel. And for the love of God, please watch my new show and share this post. There’s no network behind this one—just me and you and whatever fortunate wind might blow through the world wide web.

PS. For those of you unfamiliar with every detail of my resume, I used to host a show on Facebook Watch called “Returning the Favor.” Modesty aside, it was pretty good. In each episode, we profiled an individual who was improving their communities with a bottom-up solution to any number of problems plaguing neighborhoods all over America. We produced 100 episodes, which got over 450 million views. We also won an Emmy, for what it’s worth. Facebook, however, for reasons that had nothing to do with the show’s popularity, discontinued the Watch Platform, and Returning the Favor was no more. Ever since, I’ve been hearing from fans who want to know when the show was coming back.

Well, this is it, sort of. Returning the Favor is still owned by Facebook, so I don’t have the right to use that title. I do, however, have the right to introduce you to another batch of people I think you should know, and then, surprise those people with a gift that allows them to do more of the good work they’re being acknowledged for doing. And so, in clear defiance of the Producer’s Golden Rule (never spend your own money!!!) I’ve decided to find out if there’s still an audience out there for this kind of unapologetically feel-good content. Seems to me the country could use it. With the help of Mary Sullivan, Sarah Yourgrau, and my friends at Impact Productions, we’ve produced six new episodes of a show I’m calling, “People You Should Know,” which I’m delighted to say lives up to its title. The first episode, as I may have mentioned, will premiere on my YouTube channel, May 2nd. After that, we’ll post a new one every other week and see how it goes.

Also, in the interest of managing expectations, I should tell you that we don’t have the financial resources we once did, so the reveals might be a tad less elaborate than they once were. Fewer stadiums bursting with local townspeople, fewer parades, fewer bells and whistles, that sort of thing. But I promise you, if you liked Returning the Favor, you’re gonna love People You Should Know. It’s not just a feel-good show, it’s “the making of a feel-good show,” and like its predecessor, you’re liable to laugh and cry—quite possibly at the same time.

To review, “People You Should Know” is coming to my YouTube Channel on May 2nd. Which reminds me, if you haven’t already done it, subscribe to my channel.

PPS. Attached are few random shots from recent shoots. That’s Sarah, of course, producing and co-hosting at the same time, even as she doesn’t fall off a bike while look fabulous. Below is Rusty The Bike Guy in Florida, chauffeuring my loyal soundman to nowhere in particular, and Lenzy, whose story you’ll have to hear to believe, and Judaline, a tiny plumber in Staten Island that’s making a BIG difference. More later…
