Mike – I heard you made this year’s list of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People! That’s awesome! Your parents must be so proud!

Hi Sheila
While it’s technically true that my name is on the list of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential” people, it would not be accurate to say that I am one of those people listed as “Most Influential” by Time Magazine. It would be more accurate to say that I am on the list of 100 moderately influential people who were chosen to write about the 100 people who Time Magazine has deemed “most influential.” In my case, I was asked to write 150 words about Joe Rogan. I have no idea why I was selected, but I was flattered to be asked, and delighted to see my words in the pages of Time Magazine, which you can read here.
As for my parents, they were also delighted to see me on this list, and called yesterday to congratulate me.
“How does it feel,” said mom, “to be on a list of people who are not among the most influential, but influential enough to write about them?”
I told her it was a great honor to be considered moderately influential, and that becoming so would have been impossible without her constant encouragement and support over the years. Then my father chimed in to tell me he’d ordered extra copies of Time Magazine, to hand out to neighbors in their retirement home.
“It’s not every day that a father wakes up to see his son’s name in such tiny font,” he said, “or in such close proximity to so many people who are truly famous.”
I told him that I would try not to let it go to my head.
