I know there was some frustration back in July, when lots of people on this page, (and all over the country), couldn’t find Something to Stand For in a theater that was close to their home. In part, this happened because Something to Stand For was sold as a “Fourth of July Event,” not a traditional Hollywood production. Thus, it was released in a limited number of theaters, and for a very short run. But a funny thing happened on the way to the cinema…
The reviews turned out to be incredibly positive, (it’s still holding fast at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes), and the word of mouth that surrounded it’s release was really powerful. In other words, the movie generated a LOT of buzz, just as its limited engagement came to an end, creating a ton of demand for a product that wasn’t there. (Oops.) Ever since, I’ve been inundated with questions about where and when the movie will be available to stream, and today I’m happy to tell you the answers to those questions are a) Angel Studios, and b) right now!
Fans of my podcast won’t be shocked to learn that Angel turned out to be the initial home for this film. I’ve interviewed the Harmon Brothers at length, and long admired not just what they’ve built, but how they built it. Unlike other streamers, members of the Angel Guild have a direct say in what kind of content the studio makes, and what kind of content the studio acquires. The result is a unique collection of programming that serves an audience that Hollywood has become pretty good at ignoring. The Chosen, The Sound of Freedom, The Sound of Hope, Mother Cabrini, The Tuttle Twins and so many other big hits…these projects all had to be approved by the subscribers themselves.
To say it another way, the content at Angel Studios actually stands for something, which makes it a great place to watch Something to Stand For. Here’s your first chance to do so in the comfort of your own home, and a fine way to spend a couple hours over the long weekend. https://bit.ly/4g5jaji
[EDIT] There seems there’s some confusion about the cost of streaming this movie, probably because Angel is having a Labor Day sale, and there are multiple options to consider in the link I provided. I think the important thing to remember, is that monthly subscriptions are available for $12, and can be canceled at any time. In spite of what you might read in the comments below, there’s no obligation to purchase a year-long membership.
