I watched a movie a few weeks ago about a little town in East Texas called Possum Trot, where the tiny congregation of a small Baptist church adopted an astonishing number of kids from the foster care system – 77, in fact.
The movie was called The Sound of Hope, and the main characters are W.C. Martin, the pastor of Bennett Chapel, and his wife, Donna. Their story is riveting, and when I realized it was completely true, I asked Chuck to see if Bishop Martin might care to leave the comforts of Possum Trot, and venture west toward Gomorrah, where I recorded the conversation you’re about to hear. To my surprise and delight, he showed up last week with his lovely wife, and told me the story of their incredible adventure in Possum Trot, firsthand. It is, indeed, a story of hope, especially for anyone who has ever taken a close look at the foster care system, and despaired. Or for that matter, anyone who has ever wondered what the role of the church could or should be, in these challenging times.
Atheist, agnostic, or true believer, you’re gonna like the Bishop.I guarantee it. Our whole conversation is here. https://bit.ly/TWIHI397.
