Want to see something stunningly beautiful? Google WW1 Memorial, Sabin Howard, and check out the new sculpture that will soon appear at Pershing Park in Washington DC. It’s a monument in bronze, with 38 individual characters depicting “A Soldier’s Journey.” To say its undertaking was ambitious, would be an understatement. The story of how Sabin won the competition to spend more than a few years bringing his vision to life is remarkable, and I was honored to hear all about it firsthand.
Sabin Howard, for the uninitiated, is a sculptor whose artistic work is unexampled today. He’s often referred to as a modern-day Michelangelo, although, to his credit, he blushed when I pointed that out, in a conversation I’m pleased to share with all of you. You can listen to it here.
You don’t need to be an art aficionado, or a collector, to appreciate what Sabin has accomplished. And you don’t need to be a patriot to see how deeply this guy loves America – maybe more than he loves the art to which his life is dedicated. Fascinating man. Great conversation. Enjoy.
