Our Heartfelt Thanks

My mother has some thoughts on her groin, which she saw fit to share. I have some thoughts on the doctors who saved her. Gonzalez and McArthur in particular. Our heartfelt thanks. The nurses too, were top-notch. Kind. Attentive. And so very competent. Thank you all. You too, Kevin. And especially Mitul, for putting us all together. The Rowe’s are in your debt.

I’m so much smarter than I used to be. I wasn’t aware, for instance, that the blood vessels in my head could get tangled and need surgery. Or that there is a path from the groin to the brain. Not that it’s an easy journey. The procedure took several hours, a skilled medical team, sophisticated equipment, and enough anesthesia to make sure I wouldn’t wake up and see them leaning on me with their elbows or writing on my body with magic markers—while they were saving my life.

It wasn’t all unpleasant. I even felt like a celebrity from time to time while anchored to my bed with miles of wires. The most popular feature in the hospital last week was my groin. Medical teams couldn’t get enough of it, multiple times throughout the days and nights. On my last day, when three young doctors came in, I simply lifted my gown. When they announced they were the “eye team,” we all chuckled.
The hope is that I can return to a somewhat normal life in time. The good news is that my brain still seems to be functioning…and I returned in time to celebrate my husband’s 93rd birthday
with friends.
