This just popped up in my “memories” on Facebook. To be honest, I have no memory of writing it, but I was struck by the fact that it was shared nearly 90,000 times. And now that I’ve just re-read it, I’m also struck by what has changed, and what has not, over the last eight years.
In short, “$1.2 trillion in outstanding student loans,” is now $1.7 trillion. “Twelve years” of celebrating hard work and skilled labor, is now “twenty years.” And “a few million available good jobs,” is now “9.7 million available good jobs.” And one new stat – over seven million able-bodied men in the prime of their life are not only unemployed, but not looking for work. That’s a first.
Aside from that, not much has changed, unfortunately.
