After a lot of careful reflection regarding the 7 million page views and 20,000 comments over the last few days, I’ve decided to provide a link to something that has nothing to do with Walmart, capitalism, socialism, unions, right-to-work, income distribution, liberals, low prices, low wages, skilled labor, welfare, conservatives, rich people, poor people, public relations, off-shoring, on-shoring, minimum wage, living-wage, commercial television, China, or my personal views on the changing face of the modern-day proletariat. Here it is – Dance Like Nobody’s Watching: Airport
With nearly 6 million views, the odds are very good that many of you have already seen this video. (The first thousand views were mine.) Personally, I find it impossible to watch this and not immediately feel better about the species. I’ve always considered this performance a Valentine to the human race. Tell me if you agree.
In the meantime, I want to thank you all for responding to this topic, and for so many supportive words. I’m grateful. And though I appear to have lost the Hipster Coalition over a Gawker, I’m heartened to see how many are able to look past the snark and focus on what’s truly at stake. At the end of the day, this conversation is a lot bigger than Walmart or me or a commercial campaign about the beauty of work. And it’s far from over. I’m on a plane at the moment, headed to Orlando for a speech, and then up to NY for some press. What could possibly go wrong?
For now, have a great weekend. Kiss your Valentine, and if you’re able, dance like nobody’s watching.
Mike
