SOLD!

The sign sums it up.
Sold, for $1.5 mil.

But the sign doesn’t say everything…

For instance, the sign doesn’t say the truck was designed by Colby Donaldson, or that it was Colby’s idea to auction it off to benefit mikeroweWORKS, or that Colby donated his time and talents to this project and asked me for nothing in return.

The sign doesn’t say the truck was built by a handful of talented craftsmen men in Ohio who had the good sense to learn a trade and then get really, really good at it. The men who built this truck are magicians, and I am in their debt.

The sign doesn’t say the truck was paid for by John Richardson. It was not cheap, but John refused to be reimbursed from the proceeds of this sale. John cares deeply about training the next generation of skilled workers, and this was his contribution to help us achieve that goal.

The sign doesn’t say the truck was auctioned off by a guy named Joe. Joe talks so fast I didn’t get his last name, but it was a pleasure to stand next to him yesterday and watch him ply his trade. Joe works for Craig Jackson, who – along with his beautiful wife, Carolyn – runs the greatest automotive auction in the world. The sign doesn’t say that either, but Craig also donated his services, along with his remarkable platform.

To say it again, every penny of the money raised yesterday will benefit the mikeroweWORKS Foundation. That’s 150 million pennies. And that’s a lot of scholarships. Which brings me to the buyer. A person who goes by the name, anonymous.

Thank you, anonymous. I’ll certainly respect your privacy, but if I’m ever in your neck of the woods, I’d love to take your new truck for a spin around the block. Even if I have to ride shotgun…
On behalf of myself and everyone at mikeroweWORKS who bore witness to these extraordinary acts of generosity, many thanks. This was a massive success, and maybe, a model for many auctions to come.
