Last night, I discussed in great detail with a small group of friends the various reasons why this is quite possibly the funniest 34 seconds in the history of YouTube.
We watched the video over and over, probably 30 times, carefully dissecting every frame. Our analysis ran deep into the night, and touched on many genres of comedy, including but not limited to slapstick, observational, improvisational, physical, prop, deadpan, satire, musical, cringe, and spoof. All of those elements – and more – can be found in this mini-masterpiece.
Now, in the cold and sober light of day, I’ve just watched it again, and spit a mouthful of Cheerios onto my keyboard.
The question, still, is why?
Why is this thing so damn funny?
(The cat’s fine, by the way.)
